A personal touch in the admissions system wins the plaudits of students at the University of Wales, Bangor.
Bangor's rating puts it at the top of the list of universities perceived by students to have a "helpful administration" - ahead of Hull, Bradford, Aberystwyth and Aberdeen.
Opinionpanel's survey ranks Bangor as an all-round strong performer.
It is ranked12th overall in terms of the number of mentions the university gets in the different top 20 topics.
It comes eighth in the students' top ten in the category for "most impressed by the campus buildings and facilities".
Carys Roberts, head of student recruitment, said the university had received 8,000 applications this year, up about 10 per cent compared with last year.
Ms Roberts said: "I think this confirms what we already thought, that we were doing well. We do a lot of work on the customer ethos and like to think that we see students as more than just numbers. They are individuals and important to us.
"I think from a lot of the work we've done with first-years, it does come across that the reality of the student experience at Bangor is that it is a genuinely friendly place and that staff are interested and give them a lot of time and attention."
Ms Roberts said that the university put a special emphasis on helping students settle in to university life quickly.
