The society aims to promote and encourage study and research in the fields of: historical, analytical, descriptive and textual bibliography, the history of printing, publishing, bookselling, bookbinding and collecting. Major grants, of sums up to £2,000, are awarded annually.
Applications should be supported by letters from two referees familiar with the applicant's work. A limited sum is also available from time to time for minor grants of £50 to £200 to be awarded on a year-round basis.
