The first intake of students at the Peninsula Medical School will receive a welcome message from prime minister Tony Blair. The pre-recorded video will be played at the opening of the school on September 30.
The school had more than 700 applications for 130 undergraduate places. Students were selected on the basis of an interview designed to assess non-academic skills such as communications, reflectiveness and empathy, as well as their intellectual abilities.
