Alec Broers is to become vice chancellor of the University of Cambridge on October 1, 1996. An electronics engineer and master of Churchill College, he will succeed Sir David Williams, the university's first full-time vice chancellor. Originally an Australian, he spent 20 years in the United States with IBM before returning to Cambridge as professor of electrical engineering in 1985.
