Padraig Flynn, European commissioner for employment and social affairs, has urged the Italian government to resolve the dispute over the rights of foreign language lecturers in Italian universities by the start of the 1998-99 academic year. He warned that if action is not taken by the universities to make their contractual arrangements conform with Article 48 of the Treaty, the commission will take legal action.
