Built environment threatened

Built environment programmes in universities face a "grim" future, with applications plummeting and departmental closures on the cards, says a report by the Ove Arup Foundation. Student applications for courses, which include architecture, surveying, planning and civil engineering, fell by 21 per cent between 1994 and 1997.
