Imperial College London will offer annual £1,500 bursaries to 20 student volunteers supporting pupils in local primary and secondary schools.
The students will help teach subjects such as science, maths and information technology, hopefully sparking an interest that leads to further study and provides pupils with a positive image of higher education.
The bursaries, which are provided by financial service provider Citigroup, are available for the coming academic year and will be aimed at those from less well-off backgrounds. Students already involved in the scheme will not be eligible for the bursaries.
