British universities have retained their places in the 2006 ranking of world universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Institute of Higher Education. The institute's fourth annual ranking again places Cambridge second behind Harvard, while Oxford is tenth. The only change in the world top 20 is that Tokyo and Johns Hopkins swap places at 19th and 20th respectively. Among UK changes, Manchester climbed three places from 50th, while Edinburgh dropped back from 47th to 52nd. The Times Higher publishes its World Rankings on October 6.
