Hertfordshire University is to axe up to 100 jobs to head off a £4 million deficit. Vice-chancellor Neil Buxton said that 45 academic posts and about 45 administrative posts would be culled in the next eight months as part of a plan to save £2.5 million in 2003-04. Most jobs will be lost through the closure of departments in which student recruitment is weak, such as dance and drama.
