Cash for doing the business with industry

* Modest cash awards totalling Pounds 150,000 are being offered to university departments that collaborate with industry. The Department of Trade and Industry scheme aims to build on an earlier competition, the President's Partnership Prizes. The government has also announced changes to its tax exemption scheme for scientific research associations.

The new arrangements more clearly define which organisations are exempt but are unlikely to affect companies that engage only in scientific research.
