Cash incentive boosts trainee teachers

Teacher training applications have increased by 32 per cent since last year, following the government's announcement that postgraduate trainees will be paid Pounds 6,000 from September.

Estelle Morris, (pictured), schools standards minister, said that subject areas that have traditionally suffered teacher shortages, such as maths, science and languages, have also experienced a boost. Trainee teachers in shortage subjects will receive a Pounds 4,000 golden hello.
