The civil service, especially its higher echelons, has traditionally been dominated by Oxbridge. But new figures from the Cambridge University careers service show that last year just 1.6 per cent of graduates entered the civil service and local authorities, the lowest percentage ever recorded. Those going into permanent employment rose 3 percentage points to 50 per cent.
