Hughes Hall, Cambridge, has become a full college of Cambridge University 121 years after it was founded. The college began life in 1885 as the Cambridge Training College for Women as part of an effort to broaden education in the last quarter of the 19th century. Then there were just 14 female students, but today there are about 500 graduate and mature students of both sexes.
