The day after London Guildhall University merged with the University of North London last week, The Diary received the following press release: "London Guildhall University has been ranked as a first-division university in a UK university league table. The news means that students will be awarded their final degree from a truly respected university."
The table, published in The Daily Telegraph , ranked institutions by the proportion of subject areas rated excellent in teaching by the Quality Assurance Agency. While London Guildhall indeed ranked first-division, the University of North London was ranked "fourth division". The institutions merged to become London Metropolitan University on August 1.
