Brussels, 24 July 2002
The European Commission's Information Society DG has published an open call for tenders for a survey on 'development of broadband access in Europe'.
The eEurope 2002 Action plan was launched at the Feira European Council in June 2000. It sets out a detailed program covering 64 actions to accelerate development of the information society in Europe. To monitor these developments, the Commission, in cooperation with the Council, has agreed a list of indicators to benchmark eEurope.
The study aims at measuring the performance of broadband access.
The indicator percentage of households with Internet access at home and in particular its supplementary indicator, the percentage of households with high speed access at home, are the relevant ones for this purpose.
This call for tenders invites tenders from companies that are able to provide data on subscribers from all operators.
