Brussels, 10 May 2002
An event to showcase how biotechnology can be applied to industrial processes and contribute to an improved environment will take place in Antwerp, Belgium, on 16 and 17 May.
The OECD task force on biotechnology and sustainable industrial development recently demonstrated that clean process biotechnologies have already been introduced in many industrial sectors, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals and energy.
The conference, hosted by the Science and innovation administration of the Ministry of Flanders and featuring a talk by Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin, aims to put biotechnology for industrial sustainability on the agenda of scientists, experts, business people and ministers and other policy-makers.
Issues examined will include how biotechnology can help reduce the use of resources, increase yield, safety, profit and quality and help to reduce waste and pollution.
