Correction: v-cs' pay

In The THES last week, we incorrectly calculated the pay rise for Sir Kenneth Calman, vice-chancellor of the University of Durham. It was actually 3 per cent, taking his pay to £142,000. We apologise for the error.

The emoluments of Dai John, director of Luton University, included the university's contribution to his national insurance and pension. Excluding this figure, Dr John received a 11.7 per cent pay rise, which took his salary to £110,000. Eight people at Luton earned more than £50,000.

The emoluments of Ian Johnston, principal of Glasgow Caledonian University, included the university's contribution to his pension. The university has calculated a 6.9 per cent pay rise, taking his pay to £112,000.

The emoluments of Richard Shaw, principal of the University of Paisley, also included the employer's pension contribution. Excluding this figure, Professor Shaw received a 4.2 per cent pay rise, which took his salary to £100,000.
