A £21 million programme to study the building blocks of the universe was approved this week by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council. It will fund two university centres and 18 academic posts. One venture will partner the universities of Liverpool, Manchester and Lancaster, the other Oxford University and Royal Holloway, University of London.
