Edinburgh University has opened a Pounds 5.5 million molecular medicine centre in the city's Western General Hospital NHS Trust, one of the medical faculty's two main teaching hospitals. The centre aims to promote research into the causes of, and treatments for, a range of illnesses that can be caused or triggered through genetic inheritance, such as diabetes, some forms of cancer, high blood pressure, cystic fibrosis and motor neurone disease.
