In the midst of all the speculation about why Labour's Science Minister Lord Sainsbury resigned suddenly last week, spare a thought for the poor folk of Keele University. Officials there have been in talks with Lord Sainsbury's office for months planning his visit to launch their new research initiative - Keele2006 - only to have it scuppered just days before.
