Brussels, 17 Mar 2003
A conference focusing on the emerging issue of human and veterinary pharmaceutical products appearing in aquatic environments is being organised from 14 to 16 April in Lyon, France.
The ENVIRPHARMA 2003 conference aims to present recent results concerning the occurrence, effects and risk management of veterinary and human medicines in the environment. In doing so, it will provide a forum to discuss and identify key issues relating to pharmaceuticals in the environment at the European level.
A workshop involving a scientific committee, invited speakers, end users and other interested parties will identify future areas for research on the management of environmental risks of pharmaceuticals in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
The conference will also aim to promote the development of a network for future research collaboration in this field.
The event is being co organised by Cemagref, a French research centre whose work focuses on sustainable development in non urban areas.
The ENVIRPHARMA 2003 conference is being funded under the 'sustainable management and quality of water' key action of the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5).
