EU should follow UK's high-technology lead

The European Union should borrow the British government's idea of setting up university enterprise centres to create 20 of its own to help boost the high-tech sector, according to a report this week by Harry Cowie of Federal Trust, a London-based think-tank on EU issues. Cowie suggests that the EU centres should be endowed with a "Jean Monnet chair of entrepreneurship" and given seedcorn money to stimulate spin-off companies.
