WART charming is to be put under the microscope by scientists at Exeter University's department of complementary medicine. Video cameras will record instances in which healers attempt to cure warts from a distance. Independent assessors will monitor the trials. A second study will test claims of spiritual healing by involving five true healers and a selection of sham healers in exercises of hands-on and distance healing. Patients suffering from back pain or arthritis will not be told who are the real healers.
