Midland Bank, BP and PriceWaterhouseCoopers are among companies in Yorkshire helping to teach University of York students basic skills that employers say they want. Training in language and computer literacy, personal effectiveness, financial management, active citizenship and accounting will take place outside class hours. Those students who take courses, work placements and voluntary activities will receive the university's York Award.
