Bob Fryer (pictured), who advised the government on lifelong learning, has been appointed an executive director of the University for Industry.
Professor Fryer, who is assistant vice-chancellor of Southampton University and chair of the National Advisory Group for Continuing Education and Adult Learning, will be UfI's director of distributed operations.
Three other UfI executive directors were appointed this week: civil servant Jim Reid is director of policy development; Mary Benwell, former director of the business school at Oxford Brookes University, is director of learning; and businessman and marketing specialist David Croisdale-Appleby is director of marketing and communications.
