In the past week, the Human Genetics Advisory Commission has had its first meeting with Tessa Jowell, the minister for public health, to discuss the commission's work. HGAC chairman Sir Colin Campbell said that they had been discussing the way the HGAC raises issues of public concern and how it consults.
He said: "The HGAC has a role to play in alerting ministers to emerging developments in human genetics."
