Auxetix textiles for blast mitigation

This project, led by Exeter in collaboration with spin-off firm Auxetix and three other partners, aims to develop a blast-proof curtain that gets thicker when stretched, to provide better protection from the effects of bomb explosions. Using stronger, more resilient fibres woven into a carefully controlled textile structure, the curtain is designed to remain intact and capture debris such as flying glass when windows are blown in and to remove the need for anti-shatter films.
