Higher education faces major change as it prepares for a new tier of sub-degree qualifications.
Education secretary David Blunkett is due to announce details of the government's proposals for two-year associate or foundation degrees on Tuesday. The bulk of the government's planned expansion in higher education, 100,000 more students by 2002, will be achieved through the new qualifications.
