Lord Hutton, author of the controversial report on the death of Government scientist David Kelly, received an honourary doctorate from Ulster University this week despite widespread protests from students and Sinn Fein. Objections were raised in relation to Lord Hutton's role as a judge in Northern Ireland and not the Kelly inquiry. The university said it awarded the honourary Doctor of Laws in recognition of Lord Hutton's work as a university visitor.
