A scheme that encourages science postgraduates to become schoolteachers is being expanded with funding from the Foyle Foundation. Imperial College London's Inspire programme, which combines a postgraduate certificate in education with specialised science-communication training, has won £500,000 from the foundation to help support the training of 50 scientists as teachers over the next five years. The places will be targeted at chemistry and physics postgraduates because of the shortage of teachers with a background in those subjects in London's state schools.
