A centre of education research has been invited to join the 1994 Group of smaller research-intensive universities. The Institute of Education, University of London will formally join the group on 1 August. Paul Wellings, chair-elect of the 1994 Group and vice-chancellor of Lancaster University, said the institute "delivers world-leading research in education and across the social sciences" and exerts an "impressive influence on education policy nationally and globally". "I am sure that it will be a huge asset to the group," he said.
