A public committee with a mandate to decide about a gradual reduction in Israeli university tuition fees is to be established in the next few days with representatives from the ministries of finance and education and the student union. Students had threatened to resume demonstrations suspended a year ago when they were offered a system of loans by then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Students rejected the offer and the situation remained unresolved until talks with new prime minister, Ehud Barak.
