It's not unusual

According to the leaked external audit, "The payment of fees to members of administration staff is unusual" (THES, February 21). An interesting choice of words, which raises a simple question: Why is it unusual? Administrators have mortgages and poor salary scales too. The facts of this case at Bath University are perhaps rather complex. The principle of eligibility to receive fees should not be conflated with the facts of individual cases.
