(Photograph) - This week's government reshuffle propelled public health minister Tessa Jowell (pictured below) into the Department for Education and Employment. Ms Jowell (Dulwich and West Norwood), who replaced Andrew Smith, the new chief secretary to the Treasury, will be responsible for the New Deal under which benefit claimants are given the option of work or education and training. Former cabinet "enforcer" Jack Cunningham (Copeland) was this week tipped for a possible new post promoting science policies, including biotechnology. Dr Cunningham gained his PhD in chemistry at Durham University.
