A bamboo raft holding an "English garden" has been launched on a lake at Lancaster University as part of a project to raise awareness of the effects of climate change. Christine Dawson, an artist who works at the university, said the garden, which was floated on Lake Carter in the university's campus grounds, was designed to draw attention to the plight of Bangladesh, which faces losing about a fifth of its land mass as a result of global warming. Ms Dawson said: "Land is so precious there as it is disappearing year by year. Our lifestyles have much to do with this."
