Giant butterfly centre to be built in US
A large private donation will allow the University of Florida to build the world's biggest butterfly and moth research and education centre. The McGuire Center for Lepidoptera will be finished in 2003 and will house at least six million specimens. William W. McGuire, chairman of United Health Group, and his wife, Nadine, donated $4.2 million (£2.9 million).
Italy in court setback over abusing rights of foreign lecturers
An official report by the advocate-general of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg has backed the European Commission in its case against the Italian state. Italy is accused of violating the acquired rights of foreign-language lecturers working in its universities. The court's final decision is expected by the autumn.
