US body urges end to derogatory nicknames
The US Commission on Civil Rights has urged colleges to stop using American Indian nicknames and mascots. It said their use by non-tribal colleges created a racially hostile educational environment and could breach federal anti-discrimination laws.

Rwandan professor to face Belgian court
A professor at the National University of Rwanda was due to appear in court in Brussels today accused of the deaths of at least seven Tutsis in the 1994 genocide. Cases are being brought against him, two nuns and a presidential aide in Belgian courts, which may hear cases of alleged human rights violations from anywhere in the world.
