$25m gift buys Tennessee a new centre
A $25 million (£17.2 million) donation to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will be used to establish a centre for urban planning. The money, from Jack Lupton, a former Coca-Cola bottling magnate, will be donated over the next three years.

Australian wins Shakespeare prize
Charles Edelman of Edith Cowan University in Western Australia has been awarded the 2001 Sohmer-Hall Prize for his book Shakespeare's Military Language: A Dictionary. The prize is awarded annually by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
