Universities uncovered as arms investors
Universities are major investors in the arms trade. Some 49 institutions held between them about 50 million shares in six companies making armaments and products for military use, according to the Campaign Against Arms Trade. Full story in The THES tomorrow, Friday 23 February.
Government approaches adult study target
The government is close to achieving its target for adults in higher education, with .5 per cent of over-21s now gaining degree-level qualifications. The target is 28 per cent by 2002.
Scot boat rivals win sponsorship
Scotland’s recently resurrected boat race between Edinburgh and Glasgow universities has had its future secured for the next three years with £40,000 sponsorship from the Edinburgh finance company Walter Scott & Partners.
