New guidelines for minimum areas of knowledge, understanding and intellectual skills, proposed for law degrees by the Law Society and the Council of Legal Education, have been approved by the Lord Chancellor. They include seven foundation areas of legal knowledge which should be covered by all law degrees, and new criteria for legal research.
