Leicester University spent Pounds 300,000 last year in legal bills fighting its staff in employment disputes.
The costs, which were not budgeted for, made a significant contribution to the university's Pounds 3.3 million deficit. The costs are also roughly double the sum of money required to prevent the university from having to cut its library's subscriptions to academic journals.
