The number of staff in higher education libraries has continued to rise in contrast to public libraries, according to new figures from the Library and Information Statistics Unit based at Loughborough University.
There was a 12 per cent increase in the number of higher education library staff in 2000-01, to nearly 10,000, while there was a 10 per cent decline over the past decade in public library staff, to 25,600.
