Liverpool to venture into new research areas

February 18, 2005

Liverpool University announced a major recruitment drive this week, advertising for up to 30 postgraduate researchers across a wide range of subjects, writes Anthea Lipsett.

In an advert in this week's Times Higher , Liverpool says it is looking to boost its investment in postgraduate research bursaries in 2005-06. It is also advertising research studentships. Possible research areas include archaeology, pharmacology and law.

Stephen Flint, director of the Graduate School, said the advert was pitched partly at the research assessment exercise. "But within that there are areas we may wish to develop more quickly than others. We are thinking of using this investment to expand interdisciplinary research," he added.

Boosting new research areas is behind the £1 million investment.

"It's part of a long-term investment in increasing our research output."
