LONDON scientists are the most productive in Europe, according to a study by Christian Matthiessen of the University of Copenhagen. The capital's researchers published more papers than did scientists in Paris, Moscow, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Berlin. But if the size of the population is taken into account, a different picture emerges. Cambridge scientists publish the greatest number of papers per head of the city's population, with Oxford coming second.
