Heriot-Watt University's Norwegian Students Association has led Edinburgh's celebrations of Norwegian Constitution day on May 17, marked by an early morning ascent of Arthur's Seat, (the nearest mountain to Norway), for almost 40 years. But this year an even older link was commemorated with the arrival at the university of a delegation from the Royal Norwegian Military Academy.
During the war, Norwegian soldiers were billeted in the former Riccarton House, in whose grounds the university now stands, and the requisitioned house was used as a base to plan the liberation of their homeland.
