Sir Alan Langlands, principal of Dundee University and former chief executive of the National Health Service in England, told last week's Scottish knowledge transfer conference that former prime minister Margaret Thatcher used to tell him she wanted the NHS to be more like British Airways, Marks & Spencer and BT. "I think we did that pretty well," he said.
