Middlesex University Press is to cease operations at the end of the year. Waqar Ahmad, chair of MUP, announced the decision to authors following a management review, which resulted in the press being separated from the print management service, Litho. This left the press wholly owned and subsidised by Middlesex. In a letter, Mr Ahmad states: "Major investment would have been required to grow the business and, in my view, in today's financial climate it would have been irresponsible to make that investment with no guarantee of a satisfactory return. I therefore consider the continuation of Middlesex University Press as part of Middlesex to be untenable."
