The Natural Environment Research Council has been slated by the National Audit Office for poorly managing plans to build its oceanography centre in Southampton. The council budgeted Pounds 49 million but the final cost has yet to be determined. The main contractor, Wimpey, may sue the NERC for Pounds 12 million in cost overruns.
