Oxford's triumph on the water in this year's boat race has been matched in the water, too. The university's swimming team splashed to victory in the second cross-English Channel Varsity Swim, making France's Cap Gris Nez in eight hours, 18 minutes - seven minutes faster than their rivals. At least this time there was a winner. The first cross-Channel race between the two universities ended, after nine hours and 25 minutes, in a dead heat.
