Teacher training programmes at Northumbria University have been rated "outstanding" by Ofsted, the schools inspectorate. Its report states that the university's courses, which train early-years, primary and secondary-school teachers, are outstanding in terms of the quality of course provision and the attainment of trainees. It also praises Northumbria's support for students and its efforts to build partnerships with schools.
